The Septic Field

A septic field is the final treatment component of the on-site system. Here it is aerobically treated and dispersed back into the soil to recharge the ground water. When a septic field is designed one has to know both, the amount and quality of the sewage effluent that will be entering into the septic field, and the type and porosity of the receiving soils.

It is generally believed that four feet deep of good quality percable soil is the minimum amount needed to adequately treat and disperse the sewage effluent generating from a dwelling. The quality of this soil is measured in many ways but a percolation test is normally done to determine how quickly and for how long this soil will accept effluent.

The desired location of the septic field also has to be taken into consideration. Any potential storm or ground water that may impact the workings of the septic field must be diverted.

The septic field must be placed so that there will not be vehicle traffic or building structures eventually placed over the top of the area.

Only experienced, qualified, and certified septic installation contractors should be allowed to design and install your onsite septic system.

Our firm has been designing and installing systems for over 20 years. We are an active participant in the B.C. Onsite Sewage Association and along with Royal Roads University have helped with the programs and training used to provide qualified on-site septic contractors in the Capital Region District.

We have installed and maintained many on-site septic systems.
