Septic MaintenanceThe septic tank is a crucial component of your on-site sewage system. It is a watertight tank designed for the storage and treatment of a minimum of 3 days worth of sewage flow generated from a dwelling. This treated sewage (effluent) then is allowed to enter into the septic field. Bacteria entering with the raw sewage into the septic tank naturally digest the sewage. This bacterium literally eats the solid sewage particles and turns them into liquids and gasses. The by-product of this biological process is left in the bottom of the tank as sludge, and at the top of the tank as the crust.
